Madrid took the lead in the opening 15 minutes as Sergio Ramos struck home from Toni Kroos' assist. Striker Emmanuel Boateng equalised before the break after Ramos kept Jose Luis Morales onside in the build-up.
Isco put the visitors ahead once again in the 81st minute from good work by Karim Benzema. However, the day was soured for Los Blancos when poor defending from Dani Carvajal and Raphael Varane allowed 33-year-old Italian debutant Giampaolo Pazzini to level matters at the death.
As such, the French mentor was furious at the poor defending for both of Levante's goal telling reporters after the match: "I‘m disgusted with the result, it’s hard to take. After our second goal we had to control the ball, nothing else, and defensively we were not good.
"The truth is the game was under control and we had done the hard part, which is scoring. We scored the second, 2-1, but we made two errors and they scored two goals against us."
The reigning European champions now seemingly have just the Champions League to play for as they trail league leaders Barcelona by 18 points. Zidane's charges are already eliminated from the domestic Spanish cup competitions after losing in the cup to Leganes.
