Nigerian Youngstar Ends Black Cats woeful Run

Josh Maja came off the bench to score a vital goal as Sunderland edged Fulham for only their third league win of the season.

The 18 year old had only been on the pitch four minutes when he latched onto Adam Matthews’ pass before beating Fulham keeper Marcus Bettinelli with a crisp left-foot finish.

Ironically the teenager started out at Fulham before joining Sunderland on a two-year contract.

The Lewisham-born forward, son of Nigerian parents, is highly rated and would have been involved earlier this season but for injuries.

His only previous appearance for the Black Cats was in the League Cup at QPR – a game which also ended in a Sunderland win.
